Chandragiri Day hiking is newly opened site to the travelers for the best panoramic view of the Himalayas and Kathmandu valley. It is 2551m from the sea level and lies to the south west of Kathmandu Valley. The cable is to the top is approx. 2.5 km from Godan Thankot. There is a Hindu temple called Bhaleswor on its top.

Chandragiri is one of the highest points in Kathmandu valley and is connected with the historical unification of Nepal by King Prithvi Narayan Shah in the 18th Century. Since it is one of the four passes of the valley, trade businessmen used to pass through here. They use to take a rest here and see the beautiful valley. King Prithvi Narayan Shah used to worship the god Bhaleswor before he attacked the kingdoms. So, it was a very important temple for him.

Thousands of people visit this place at present after the establishment of the cable car. The view from the top is amazing. The Himalayan ranges like Annapurna, Manaslu, Ganesh Himal, Langtang and Gaurishankar as well and Mahalangur can be seen from here. It is also getting a popular place to see the Mt. Everest in the clear weather. On the lap of the massif Himalayas, beautiful landscape of high hills looks very impressive. We can see the whole Kathmandu valley from here. To its south, we see the hills and the beautiful village of Chitlang. The lush green forest looks so beautiful on the way to the top and the south rim. The playing court for children and the visitors, a good restaurant and the viewpoint with binoculars make one comfortable here. The cable is about 9min to reach the top, but there is a hiking trail too.
